STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
WHAT IS SAP AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Our Student Ambassador Program (SAP) puts sustainable practice in the hands of students to incorporate and encourage ecological thinking from the training level. For the cultural sector, getting involved with sustainability is a way to take responsibility in a world where commitment and concrete action towards facing climate challenges are becoming increasingly urgent. The SAP helps conservation and restoration students (individuals or teams) to initiate sustainable practices within their school. In doing so, it creates awareness of the environmental impact of our profession and instills sustainable habits in conservators at the student level that will carry over into the professional sector.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each institution appoints a Student Ambassador, which can be a single individual or a group of students. The Student Ambassador is responsible for identifying problem areas in and around the workspace as well as promoting awareness of sustainable methods and initiatives. The program is outlined in the SAP Handbook.
It follows three focus points:
Materials and Waste
The second volume of the SAP Handbook, released for the 2019-2020 academic year, focuses on materials and waste management of workplaces and student habits. The step-by-step guide is coupled with various self-assessment tools, which facilitate the identification of problem areas and enable students to track their improvements. For an introduction to the topics covered by the SAP Materials and Waste Handbook, check out the Self-Assessment tool.
This program is designed to showcase successes and share best practice by connecting students from around the globe via SiC’s social media platform.
SiC will also offer an online meetings for helping Student Ambassadors while they initiate the sustainable transition within their school.
