Through surveys sent out to practitioners in the field, the SiC Research team can gather information on all sorts of aspects in the area.

Please find current and past surveys below with samples of the fascinating results we are finding.

Through this survey, Materials in Conservation, our researchers will try to find eco-friendlier alternatives to often used materials in conservation which count as pollutant, are not possible to recycle, toxic for the user and/or environment during use and disposal, as well as high embodied energy.

The materials have been identified through the Survey submitted to members of the SiC Facebook page. If no green alternatives are found, our researchers will focus on finding information about the possible ways of reusing or recycling them.

Through this survey, SiC intended to find out to what extent conservation studios are green work places, and to get the participants of the survey to think more about their own sustainable practice. Our SiC Research Committee will use the results to see where improvements can be made and find out exactly what can be done.

Sustainability in Conservation is an online network providing resources and information about environmentally responsible practices  in art conservation and related fields. Within a practice that produces so much waste, we hope to inspire collaboration and awareness to make cultural heritage a more sustainable profession.
